At the start of each new year, I like to do a little personal and business recap of the previous year, both for myself and to simply share all the things behind A Piece of Harmony Events. So, what can I say about 2024? Looking back, I think my word for the year would be “adapt”. Even after 10 years in the event industry there were still so many new learning opportunities and a few things I had not experienced before. On top of adding a new baby to the mix. With that, take a short walk down memory lane with me and everything that came with this past year.
On December 5th, 2023, our sweet baby boy, Elliott Raymond, was born. In true Sydney fashion, I have zero chill, so I really didn’t take much of a maternity leave because a planner’s job never shuts off. Exactly two weeks later our daughter turned 3 then before we knew it, we were in January and slowly adjusting to figuring out being a family of 4. My husband was lucky enough to get 12 weeks of paternity leave so even though I did not take any events in the months of January and February, he was home until the end of February so I was still able to stay busy planning with clients and getting stuff set up for summer events. Thank God for Zoom & Microsoft Teams because virtual meetings were where it was at for me during this time. Before we knew it, March was upon us… Chris was back at work, and I had my first wedding. My season both started and ended at the lovely Historic Davenport.
There was a short break in events (not a break in meetings, I can assure you), but once May the 4th Be With You was upon us so was wedding season! I was blessed to be able to bring on a fantastic assistant this year who I am extremely grateful for. In fact, she’s never allowed to leave me. Ha! We had the great pleasure of being part of so so many amazing weddings and celebrations. The clients, family, friends we got to meet and work with were fantastic. However, just like everything in life, it wasn’t all sunshine and rainbows. We definitely encountered some hiccups and fires that needed to be put out at a few events. A couple highlights of those hiccups…
One client ran into some major venue renovations that were very unexpected and changed the vibe of the event pretty drastically, so we had to do some hard pivots, but in the end it all turned out beautifully! On one particular day in June, the wind aged me about 10 years because it ripped through the tree-less meadow of a private residence where I swore if I didn’t hold down the tent legs personally it was going to fly away. Again, everything ended up rolling exactly how it was supposed to, and a stunning double rainbow graced us with its presence right before the light disappeared over the mountains. August brought a couple of new experiences for me… unfortunately, I did have to call 911 at a wedding. The guest ended up needing to leave the festivities but, thankfully, was okay in the end. Then the next day, at a different wedding celebration, I got stung by a bee inside my lip. The bee had gotten into the can of sparkling water I was drinking at the time. Obviously, I was unaware of this little development, so when I went to drink said sparkling water the bee came out too and into my mouth where I quickly spit it out, but not before it stung my lip. It was swollen for a solid 3 days, but that was the worst of it.
September and October rolled through in a pretty smooth fashion with lots of beautiful fall weddings! I coordinated my last wedding in the middle of November which quickly led us into our Thanksgiving break in Arizona, and very shortly after that our birthday and Christmas celebrations took up all of December. The last two months of 2024 were an absolute blur. Full of family, friends, and lots of food. Elliott turned one, Audrey turned four (and moved up into a pre-k class at her learning center), Chris got a very exciting new promotion, and the business rounded out the busiest year thus far! 2025 is absolutely not slowing down. Somehow it is looking like it is going to be even busier! I am so blessed, grateful, thankful… all those slightly cheesy, but true words… to be able to continue doing what I love and celebrating love with so many amazing clients, family members, and vendor friends. We even have some non-wedding events on the books this year and I am so excited to branch out into different markets.
Thank you for always sticking with me. Thank you for walking down a short and sweet version of the road that was 2024. And let’s crush another year!!
