You just got married in beautiful Coeur d’Alene, ID. The weather was perfect, the celebration was full of love, laughter, and a dang good time. All your favorite people are in the same place for a whole weekend… the wedding was the main event, but when they ask you “what else is there to do around here?”, do you know what to tell them? Whether your guests have visited this area or not, it is likely that they would love some ideas of other fun things they can do on their trip, post wedding. To help, I have compiled a short list of local attractions, activities, places to see, places to eat, everything you could need to keep your traveling family & friends busy and happy!
Let’s start with some things to recommend for those who prefer to be outdoors, want to get some exercise, or simply explore what this area has to offer outside of the city:
- Hiking trails are in abundance in this area!
- Tubbs Hill – This one is still technically “in the city”, but it won’t feel like that once you are further back on the trail!
- Pulaski Trail – This is a great little hike if you want a little bit more of a challenge, but don’t have time for an all-day hike. It is 4 miles up and back and located in Wallace, ID not too far east of CdA
- Mineral Ridge – This is a nice 3-mile loop overlooking Lake Coeur d’Alene. Because it is a loop, it is uphill one way then a nice downhill on your way back.
- Higgins Point – I wanted to mention this one because you get to walk next to the water and there is a slight hill ended at a beautiful picnic area overlooking the lake, but it is much more of a nice leisurely uphill walk versus a hike, if that is more your style. A plus for this one is that it is a wide, nicely paved trail suitable for any level of mobility.
- Q’Emilin Park – This beautiful park in on Spokane River in Post Falls. There is plenty to do here if you want to drive roughly 15-20 minutes from downtown CdA. Everything from swimming to hiking to rock climbing.
- Timberline Zip Line – Feeling adventurous?!
- Water Activities
- Hiawatha Trail – This is a fun one! Hop on a bike (don’t worry they have rentals) and ride the 15-mile former railroad line trail just over Lookout Pass through tunnels, past waterfalls, and over bridges. This activity takes the average person 3 hours to complete with a 45-minute shuttle at the end to take you back to your car, so plan for at least half a day then head back down the pass into Wallace for some great food & small town shopping. A headlamp, or some other kind of lighting, is a requirement, as there is a tunnel you will be riding through.
Sometimes when you are on vacation you want something a little more relaxed and just enjoy the scenery without too much exercise (haha), so here are some things for everyone – the typical tourist stuff:
- Shopping!! – Speaking of shopping, downtown CdA also has some great little shops for everyone to enjoy. And perfect if you need to bring back a souvenir or two for yourself or anyone back home!
- Walk The Boardwalk
- Seaplane Ride
- Resort Cruise
- Eat Good Food – The good food in downtown CdA is not lacking! First stop – Hudson’s Hamburgers. Looking for something on the fancier side before you head back, stop by Cedar’s Floating Restaurant.
When you are planning and hosting a destination wedding, many times that includes families – we all have them! And when there are young families there are young kids and kids need to be entertained too. So here are a list of things that are family friendly and sure to please those little ones:
- Silverwood Theme Park – Located in Athol, ID this is all-day attraction will keep the family busy until everyone is ready to fall into bed and sleep for hours! Water rides, roller coasters, a train ride, carnival games, on and on and on. I promise you will not be bored!
- Silver Mountain Resort – This resort in Kellogg, ID is great if you want to get out of the city for a night with the family. Typically thought of in the context of skiing and snowboarding, Silver also has a great indoor water park called Silver Rapids. And in the summer you can take the gondola ride up to the top of the mountain just to site see or to enjoy one of the 39 mountain biking trails they have.
- Fort Sherman Park & CdA Carousal – If you want to stay in the heart of the city, this is a great option for the kids that is almost free. Of course, enjoy the park at no cost to you or the kiddos and $5 get you two rides on the carousal (restored in 2017 after gracing the CdA Playland Pier from 1942-1974).
- The Escape Game – My brother seems to find one of these everywhere we visit, so if you family is the same way… here you go!
- Triple Play Family Park – If you like the idea of Silverwood, but you don’t want to drive that far this is a great alternative! Triple Play is just a short drive up in Hayden, ID and offers loads of family fun from bowling, go-carts, water bumper boats, mini golf, virtual reality, a rope’s course, arcade games, an indoor water park, and more!
So, what do you think? My guess is that you found a couple of things on this list that you know will interest your guests while they are visiting this beautiful area! This city and the surrounding area have so much to offer – I hope your people are able to take full advantage of whatever is going to interest them most and leave with the absolute best memories!
