Adding Color to Your Wedding Design Plan

Raise your hand if you love bold colors. Now, raise your hand if you want to incorporate those bold colors into your wedding design plan, but you may not know how without looking like you are hosting a circus.

I love when couples are not afraid to, strategically, add a pop of color or colors to their design plan because the world is made up of more colors than white, blush and ivory. Don’t get me wrong, those classic color palettes are beautiful and if that is your style, I am all on board. But, if you are that person who is drawn to all the color the world has to offer, keep reading because there are always ways to get creative and make a statement without going overboard… you just have to have a little trust and imagination!

There are a couple of different ways to go about incorporating color into your design scheme. A couple of my favorites are the napkins (and/or table runners) and the florals. These are easy ways to accent a space because it helps draw the eye without being too much. Once you pick that all important color (or colors) you want to make a statement with, you just find other complimentary colors to place around it. For example, the bride from the wedding featured below wanted to accent her color scheme with coral pink, so to do that we chose to stick those classic, easy to compliment colors in like blush, white and gold. This way the boldness of that coral color – drawn from the peonies, roses and carnations – stood out immediately when you entered her reception space. It also nicely accented her wedding dress, which was blush, and her bridesmaid dresses, which were white.

This next wedding, featured below, the bride wanted to incorporate lots of color not just one. This was a fun wedding to design because it felt like no idea was off the table, but again, when you want to incorporate this much color into your space it should be done strategically and with a solid base plan. We decided that base plan was going to be lavender purple, navy blue, greens and gold. We used those colors for the bigger items… the tuxes, the dresses, the napkins, the silverware & chargers, etc. This allowed for the bride and the florist to get very creative with the florals and add additional colors such as different hues of blues, purples, pinks and oranges. It made for a very fun and vibrant late summer wedding without feeling too overwhelming.

If you don’t feel like going quite as bold as these ladies did, but still want to incorporate that fun, bright color you love so much in your design plan somewhere, there are some more subtle ways to do that such as, the menu/place cards, your wedding shoes or even with your manicure/pedicure color. It doesn’t have to be much to still make a statement and be unique to you.

All this to say, I love when couples are willing to take a chance and design outside the box, even if they don’t know where to start, but rather simply the colors they want to incorporate. LET ME HELP! The design of your wedding doesn’t have to be stressful and overwhelming, it should be fun and exciting, so let’s work with those colors that may not sound like they will work together, but when all said and done are a gorgeous focal point of your wedding space!
