There’s a sweet spot on the calendar that I find myself savoring every year… the first two weeks of September. As a wedding planner in the Inland Northwest, I get a front-row seat to every season, every weather mood swing, and every shift in the landscape. And early September will always be my favorite. Always.
It feels like the moment when summer finally exhales, and fall starts to whisper its arrival. The days feel intentional, the air is comfortable, and the whole region seems to glow in a way that makes everything magical.
Ask any couple what they’re worried about, and weather will be in the top three. Sometimes it’s number one. That’s why early September can be such a dream. We’re out of the high heat of July and August. No more sweating through portraits or wilting bouquets, but we’re not quite into the drastic chill that comes with late fall evenings after the sun goes down. It’s the Goldilocks zone: not too hot, not too cold, just right.
Even better? We’re not yet into the rainy-all-the-time-season. Skies are clearer, any storms that pass are quick and short lived, and backup plans don’t yet feel like a necessity and still more like a formality.
The Inland Northwest shows off in September. The Palouse fields are golden and rolling, the pine trees stand deep and green, and little hints of autumn begin to peek through the foliage. You get this beautiful blend of late-summer vibrancy with the warm tones of early fall. It’s perfect for couples wanting a natural, organic palette without fully committing to October tones or rustic vibes.
And then there are the dahlias. Peak season, peak beauty. These flowers are showstoppers and some of my favorites to see headlining bouquets and centerpieces in late August and early September. Full of texture and color. You would not believe how many varieties of dahlias there are! This is also the time of year when many local growers have a great variety of zinnias, sunflowers, and asters.

If you live here, you know how unpredictable August can be. Smoke, haze, air quality alerts, it’s always a gamble. But by early September, we’re usually on the other side of it. The skies begin to clear, the sunsets sharpen, and the mountains come back into view. The whole region feels refreshed and ready to host an unforgettable celebration.

Another September perk? We’re past peak visitor season. Yes, there is still Labor Day to consider, but overall, lakes are calmer, venues feel less crowded, and the whole region eases into a slower rhythm as it goes back to more localized traffic. Typically, your guests can travel with less stress, find lodging more easily, and enjoy the area without the midsummer congestion.
Although, for weddings, September is still a very popular time to get married in the Inland Northwest for all the reasons I have already listed. So, be sure to book early because dates tend to fill up quickly. Advance planning guarantees access to your preferred venue, vendors and accommodations.
There’s an energy in early September that feels warm and cozy, but still bright and celebratory. It feels like new beginnings wrapped in soft flannel and golden light. It’s the perfect intersection of comfort and beauty. An invitation to slow down and savor the moment, which is exactly what a wedding day deserves.
So, when couples ask me, “What’s your favorite time to get married around here?” I don’t hesitate. September. I mean, it must be good if there is a song written about it, right? But seriously, in my opinion, it’s when the Inland Northwest is at its absolute best, and your love story deserves nothing but the best.

All this to say, no matter what month, what season, what vision you have, A Piece of Harmony Events is ready to help you plan a wedding day full of intention and purpose, focused on what matters most – getting you married!!
