I have been chomping at the bit to share this wedding with you all! If you are following along, you will remember last month I posted a blog about choosing the right wedding planner for you and why that is important. This wedding was the epitome of the right planner and the right client, in my (maybe that doesn’t sound very humble) opinion. Let’s start with a little backstory… when I was taking event planning classes online right after graduating college, we were given an assignment to create this fake event from start to finish… concept, design plan, what vendors we would use, budget, the whole nine yards. I created a gala based around the theme of “moody library” – think romantic colors, lots of vintage elements, books in various sizes and colors. Old world charm. I even dared to accent the centerpieces and florals with different fruit elements. I loved this fake event. From start to finish I think this assignment is really what made me feel confident that I was meant to be an event & wedding planner.
Fast forward a few years and I am about to start my own business. I had been managing venues for a few years, but I needed to showcase my talent and wanted to meet more vendors. What better way to do that than with a styled shoot and the perfect opportunity to bring my favorite fake event to life. It was everything I ever dreamed it would be and I will forever love what was created at that shoot. Continuing to move forward a few more years… I am on a consultation call with the sweetest couple planning to get married at one of my favorite venues in Spokane – The Historic Davenport. One of the questions I always start with before I do all the talking is to have them describe the feel and overall vision they are hoping to accomplish on their wedding day. The next words out of Lisa’s mouth? “It might sound crazy, but we are hoping for more of a library themed wedding with a little speak easy feel to the reception”. Books are a big part of both of their lives and something they bonded over at the beginning of their relationship, so they really wanted to capture that element and make it a big part of their wedding. I kid you not, I’m pretty sure I melted into the chair I was sitting in. And suddenly, I was so nervous (I’m not usually nervous on consult calls anymore) because I can’t even describe to you how much I wanted to work with this couple. Thankfully, they also felt like my services were the perfect fit for them and soon we were off to the races planning their dream wedding. It felt so serendipitous and right!
Every step of the process Lisa & Daniel were amazing to work with and they trusted me with their vision wholeheartedly. It was an honor! There were so many unique and personal details integrated into one perfect day, including book paper roses, each table named after one of their favorite books, their favorite flowers (sunflower & red rose) integrated into her bouquet & their sweetheart table florals, bookmark party favors, on and on and on. The inspiration for the ceremony was Narnia, the cocktail hour and dinner was supposed to vibe with an old library, and the reception was set to the color scheme of The Little Prince with a speakeasy feel.
I even got to learn about another culture’s wedding traditions. One of those traditions is to have the family make the dessert. Boy, oh boy, did they make some dessert! When we were setting it all out, I thought there is no way this is all going to be eaten. There were so many different types of sweets and so many different colors making for a very pleasing and full table. I was proven wrong. By the end of the night a good 80% of the entire dessert table was devoured. It was impressive!
Lisa & Daniel’s wedding day was filled to the brim with love, laughter, and memories. It’s one of those events that reminds you why you got into this profession in the first place. It was such a pleasure to work with every single vendor that was part of this wedding, and I am proud of everything we accomplished to bring such a fun and unique vision to life. I will forever remember and be grateful for the opportunity to work with such amazing people like these two!
