Let’s face it, there is no way to plan for a potential wedding day emergency. If we did, it wouldn’t be an emergency, it would just be part of the plan. However, it is always a good idea to be prepared for one because things do happen. As a wedding professional, I make it a point to always have an emergency kit on hand for all events. Today I want to provide you with a list of items I like to keep in that kit so if the need arises, you can be prepared for yourself too. That way, between the two of us, we are double-y prepared!
I know this list may look long and daunting – you may even think it seems a bit like overkill – but I want to make sure I cover all the essentials. Some of these items you may already have in your wedding overnight bag but may not think to keep them with you as you move from the hotel room to the “get ready suite”, if there is one. Also, most of these items do come travel sized, so don’t think you have to go buy a whole new suitcase just for this list!
Health & Wellness:
o Snacks (granola bars, trail mix, fruit snacks, etc.)
o Bottled Water
o Toothbrush/Toothpaste/Floss
o Breath Mints (try not to chew gum)
o Eye Drops
o Allergy Meds (if applicable)
o Pain Killers
o Tums
o Tampons/Pads
o Band-Aids
o Sunscreen (if applicable, depending on time of year & location)
o Hand Sanitizer
o Baby Wipes
o Lotion
Hair & Make Up:
o Q-tips
o Tissues
o Hairspray
o Lip Balm/Gloss
o Tweezers
o Nail Clippers/Nail File
o Bobby Pins!!
o Nail Polish/Nail Polish Remover (if applicable)
o Lint Roller
o Pocket Mirror
o Fan, of sorts (if applicable) (try requesting one for your get ready room)
For Your Dress:
o Small Sewing Kit
o Safety Pins
o Fashion Tape/Hem Tape
o Stain Remover (“to-go” version)
o Static Cling Spray
For Everything Else:
o Extra Phone Charger
o Super Glue
o Scissors
o Comfy Shoes/Flats
o Drinking Straw (may seems silly, but you don’t want to ruin that lipstick)
o High Heel Protectors/Anti-slip Pads
Now, there is one other person who you should probably be thinking about on your big day – your soon-to-be husband. If he is anything like mine, it is likely that he will not think to make an emergency wedding kit for himself. Boys have accidents too, often more than the girls do, so it is always a good idea to put together a smaller version of the above list for him as well.
Groom’s Emergency Kit:
o Snacks & Water
o Toothbrush/Toothpaste/Mouthwash
o Breath Mints
o Band Aids
o Deodorant
o Pain Killers/Tums/Allergy Meds
o Lint Roller
o Safety Pins
o Super Glue
o Scissors
o Stain Remover!!
o Tissues/Handkerchief
o Lip Balm
o Razor/Shaving Cream
Hopefully you now feel a little more prepared for the unknown and that, together, we can tackle anything that comes our way.
